How We Do Business

Any repairs undertaken are on the basis that you have read, understood and agree to the information below.

Our Approach

When we commit to you and your gear, we are expecting you to commit to us. A business such as ours requires a mix of mutual flexibility, decency and pragmatism. Let’s work together to get your gear back to its full potential.

Getting Your Equipment to Us

We accept in-shop deliveries and shipments. Check our Contact Us page for business hours and location. If shipping your equipment to us, please call us to let us know it’s on the way. See Shipping below for additional information about how to keep your precious investment safe. We also offer local pickups and deliveries of small items (synthesizers, drum machines, rackmount units etc) for $50 per trip.

Repair Fees & Rates

We charge a non-refundable bench fee of $65. We may require a larger deposit for more expensive parts or larger projects.

Our hourly repair rate is $120, billed in 15-minute increments with a minimum two hours. The hourly rate is applied to both diagnostic time and repair time. Please note, the vast majority of items require at least 4 hours to unpack, diagnose, disassemble, repair, reassemble, demo, pack and ship.

Every shipped piece of gear comes with a YouTube demo video of the repaired item upon its completion.

Estimates of Cost and Time to Repair

Generally speaking, the items we repair are very complicated and each one presents a unique combination of problems. Bench time can range from 30 minutes for obvious problems to 80 hours or more (yes, 80!). Most of our customers understand that if they have a high-value, highly-complex item, it can take a very long time to revive it. Please know that we will do everything we can to provide you with an estimate if requested, but that estimate can fluctuate dramatically. If there are any financial prohibitions to repairing your item, please let us know in advance. Of course, to help mitigate undue surprises, we will communicate with you throughout the process via text, email or phone. 

Payment Methods

We accept bank transfers, Venmo, PayPal, and cash. Please note that if you wish to pay with a credit card, the 3.4% fee may be added to your invoice.

Warranty

We guarantee all our work for 90 days after completion and the sent invoice (not after payment or pickup). The warranty applies only to the specific faults that we repaired or components we replaced. This warranty does not include shipping costs.

Rush Service

We believe in treating all our customers fairly. We won’t delay completion of one customers’ job to accommodate a rush request from another customer. That being said, let us know if you have an emergency and we’ll do our best to help.

House Calls

If your equipment is too large or too risky to ship, we can come to you. In addition to our hourly rate, our fee for house calls is $150 per day. If you are located outside the Cincinnati metropolitan area, we also charge for travel expenses, including mileage at the current IRS mileage rate.

Shipping

  1. We are not responsible for shipping costs, even for items under our warranty.
  2. Foleytronics LLC has an account with an air cargo company that can be cheaper (definitely faster!) than standard shipping. To qualify for this service, your item must be in a protective case or packaged securely.
  3. Before packaging your items, imagine the carrier dropping it down a flight of stairs and then package accordingly. Here are some tips:
    • Bubble wrap is your friend. Do NOT skimp on bubble wrap! When we ship a synthesizer, we typically use an entire roll of the large-bubble bubble wrap, which can be found at Home Depot for about $20.
    •  Large boxes can be found at a local U-haul or hardware store. Get heavy duty boxes.
    • Fill any voids with packing peanuts or crumpled packing paper. 
    • When closing the box, we recommend using a liberal amount of strapping tape. 
    • After your item is properly packaged, there should be several inches of cushioning on all sides; the item should not move much at all if the box is shaken. 
    • Insure your item for full replacement value.
    • Please enclose a note with your contact information and the issues you’ve experienced with your item.

We can’t be responsible for damaged or lost packages.

Storage Fees/Abandoned Equipment

We understand that life happens, but we simply don’t have the space to offer a free storage facility for extended periods of time. If you’re not able to pick up your gear within 3 weeks of us notifying you it’s ready, we reserve the right to charge a weekly storage fee of $10.

If we have had no contact from you after 12 months, we reserve the right to sell your machine to cover our costs.
